AIRFLO

Formed at the back end of 2022, and featuring former THE ROTANAS members James Wilson and Aled Owen, AIRFLO are a Bristol based Indie-Alternative outfit that combine nostalgia and euphoria into a unique musical experience that bends and combines genres and eras. The five-piece is completed by vocalist Joshua Heather (formerly of GETRZ), Wilson’s younger brother, Tom, on drums, and keyboard player Matt Evans (Matt Le Vi).
AIRFLO's sound is a melting pot of nostalgic and modern influences. With touches of noughties indie comparable to BLOC PARTY and COLDPLAY, combined with current heavier sounds reminiscent of CHAPPAQUA WRESTLING and WUNDERHORSE, AIRFLO offer an alternative sound to what's produced by many guitar bands on the independent scene. Think dream-pop meets shoe gaze - brit wave anyone?
‘Weak Smile’ showcases the band’s understanding of what makes for a killer tune with meaning: James (Songwriter) comments, ”’Weak Smile’ is about the desolate empty feeling you feel when a relationship ends. It’s not a breakup song in the traditional way, it’s meant to reflect the hollow feeling where you see a previous partner and you’ve both gotten over it and you feel nothing.”
AIRFLO have received airplay from Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, playlisting on BBC Radio Wales and Radio X, as well as repeat plays from Rodney Bingenheimer on Sirius XM (USA). Highlights of the band’s live endeavours so far have included a UK tour with This Feeling, playing the 2024 Isle of Wight Festival, supporting bands such as HIMALAYAS, THE CLAUSE and PASTEL, and selling out their debut headline show at Bristol’s Crofters Rights in less than 48 hours.
‘Weak Smile’ was recorded, mixed and mastered by Nick Brine (OASIS, THE STONE ROSES, ASH, DODGY) at Flip Flop Records, Tredegar, Wales. ‘Weak Smile’ follows ‘With Me All The Time’, ‘Swansong’ and their debut release ‘Drift Away’. When explaining origins of the band name bassist Aled says, “We were looking for something with one word that wouldn’t be questioned much and almost mirrored the music. The words Air flow came to James and he put the two together and dropped the w.” AIRFLO are Joshua Heather, James Wilson, Aled Owen, Tom Wilson and Matt Evans
